Honored to Have My Rhinestone Cowgirl Chosen for a Juried Gallery Show in Brooklyn, NY!

I just returned from my first opening reception at a juried art gallery show in NYC!  I feel truly honored to have had my southwest assemblage piece, "Rhinestone Cowgirl," picked as one of 150 pieces from 1300 submitted to the Really Affordable Art Show that is running weekends, 1-6PM, at the BWAC Gallery, 499 Van Brunt Street, Brooklyn, NY, from Oct 3-25..  The juror was Carolyn Ramo, the Executive Director of Artadia.  I was even more pleased when I was able to pick another of my pieces as an "artist's pick" for the show.  Through unanimous vote on my Shenna's Vintage Creations Facebook page, my quirky steampunk doll, "LoveLocked" was chosen to make the arduous but exciting journey to Brooklyn.  By arduous, I mean she is undoubtedly the most challenging of my creations to try to package and send!  Alas, it was a learning experience for me because when I arrived at the gallery, she was a little askew and needed some tweaking.  A lesson learned, "ALWAYS BRING MY TOOL KIT!"  Fortunately with the help of my husband and the very kind staff, I was able to get her in tip top shape. I was informed later by a friend how perfect a match LoveLocked would be for that area since lovers have a tradition of putting a padlock on the Brooklyn Bridge with their initials on it to solidify their love!

I was very excited to make the trip out with my husband and daughter and to have my sister-in-law and her family meet us at the gallery for the opening reception.  I have been wanting to break into the NYC market, believing that my quirky/whimsical/steampunk style is in keeping with the type of art that New Yorkers tend to find appealing.  This is at least a step in the right direction.

I felt blessed to be included amongst many talented artists from all over the country.  I met some very interesting people, mostly fellow artists and art enthusiasts, and really enjoyed studying and admiring other people's creations.  It was a windy, rainy day and the area outside the gallery was flooded with water, so I was grateful that despite these obstacles, several hundred people came to show their support and appreciation of art!

hanks for sharing the article, and more importantly, your personal exper ience mindfully using our emotions as data about our inner state and knowing when it’s better to de-escalate by taking a time out are great tools. Apsdcpreciate you reading and sharing your story since I can certainly relate and I think others can to

I am 61 years old, a wife of 30 years, a mother of a wonderful and independent 23-year-old daughter, a clinical psychologist who treats adults in private practice, and last, but definitely not least, an artist.  Whew!  That was a mouth full.  My passion is creating one-of-a-kind whimsical sculptural animals, dolls, and cake toppers (with a little multi-media collage thrown in for good measure).  I hope you enjoy my creations as much as I enjoy making them!
