Today was a very exciting day for me. I received in the mail my complimentary copy of Just Steampunk! Vol 7, a specialty magazine that is published once per year. I had purchased Just Steampunk! Vol 6 at Michael's Craft Store a few months ago and noticed they were asking for submissions of "your best steampunk creation." I thought, "what do I have to lose?" So I sent off to the editor, Kelly Herrold, an e-mail with photos of my steampunk dog, "Captain von CocoaClock." I was thrilled when she enthusiastically responded saying, "love it" and requested photos of more of my creations. I ultimately sent off two more e-mails with a total of 22 items. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that all 22 of the items I submitted would be published in the magazine! I was really hoping for a one or two-page spread. I was so thankful when I noticed the two-page spread featuring 6 of my dogs on pages 38-39. My husband was by my side and we excitedly high-fived each other. I happily glanced through the next few pages and came across a second two-page spread featuring 8 more of my creations (pages 44-45)! I couldn't believe it! Then as I continued to leaf through it I came upon yet another two-page spread featuring 7 more of my assemblage dolls and animals (pages 54-55). Last but not least, one of my steampunk collages, "Death Turns Time into Eternity," was featured on page 71 amongst other artists' work. I had been eagerly awaiting this magazine as Ms. Herrold had indicated in a fairly recent e-mail that "plenty" of my items would be published. But I could never have guessed that I would be so blessed to have ALL of my submissions published. Thank you so much Ms. Herrold for being so enthusiastic about my art!!! It just goes to show that one really should pursue their dreams and take a chance. Looking through the magazine, I feel honored to have my creations displayed in a publication featuring so many talented artists.
Apparently the magazine, which is 122 pages long and is jam-packed with artists' work and no ads, can be purchased by calling Scott Publications at 1-800-458-8237. It costs $12.95. I believe it may also be for sale at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Michael's Craft Store. Here are photos of my spread:

Wow, they gave you almost the whole magazine! Congratulations! It's wonderful reading your story. I also sort of started with a Valentine's box, for my niece, but have been mostly a dabbler since then. You've really created a unique, original style. I'll keep checking back to see what you're up to!

AuthorI am 61 years old, a wife of 30 years, a mother of a wonderful and independent 23-year-old daughter, a clinical psychologist who treats adults in private practice, and last, but definitely not least, an artist. Whew! That was a mouth full. My passion is creating one-of-a-kind whimsical sculptural animals, dolls, and cake toppers (with a little multi-media collage thrown in for good measure). I hope you enjoy my creations as much as I enjoy making them! Archives
