"Seni Dusunmek" from Cezur ve Guzel, Tune by Toygar Isikli, Piano Arrangement by Shenna Shepard4/29/2019 I continue to be inspired by the prolific contemporary Turkish composer, Toygar Isikli, who has composed beautiful music for many Turkish drama series. Here is another of his tunes which I arranged for piano. It is called Seni Dusunmek and is from the drama series called Cesur ve Guzel (meaning Brave and Beautiful), starring Kivanc Tatlitug and Tuba Buyukustun. Synopsis of show: Cesur returns to his father's village with an elaborate plan to avenge the death of his father. The only thing he hadn't planned for is Suhan, the daughter of the man he believes is responsible for his father's murder. The following is the original tune from the series which is played on acoustic guitar with some electronic additions: And here I am playing my piano arrangement: And if you are interested in playing it yourself, here is my score (which I had done by Roxana Belibou who lives in Romania and has her own YouTube channel): Hope you enjoyed it! Thanks so much for listening. If you are interested, you may subscribe to my YouTube channel, Shenna Shepard. After beginning to create my own piano arrangements off of other's tunes, I felt I was ready to try to compose some tunes of my own. This is my first attempt at an original piano composition. It is somewhat influenced by some of the Bach Inventions I used to play. I hope you enjoy it! Thank you so much for listening. If you are interested in playing it, here is the score (I had it scored by Roxana Belibou who can be found on YouTube (and lives in Romania)):
Here is another tune that I arranged for piano from Turkish composer Aytekin Atas. It is called "Bir Gun Mutlaka" and is from the period drama series Calikusu (also known as Love Bird) which can be seen on Netflix and is set in 1912 Istanbul. It stars Burak Ozkivit and Fahriye Evcen (who married in real life and just celebrated the birth of their first baby!). Here is the original tune from You Tube: And here is my piano rendition as posted on You Tube: I hope you enjoyed it! Here is the score if you are interested in learning how to play it (Roxana Belibou from Romania scored it for me--she can be found on YouTube).
Senden Kapamiyorum (Nilufer & Metin) by Toygar Isikli piano arrangement by Shenna Shepard11/10/2018 This is the first piano arrangement I created from Turkish composer Toygar Isikli's music. This tune is called "Senden Kapamiyorum" (also known as Nilufer & Metin) and is from the Turkish crime/romance drama series, Kara Para Ask, which is available to watch on You Tube in Turkish with English subtitles. It stars Engin Aykurek and Tuba Buyukustun. Here is the original tune from the series on You Tube: And here is my piano arrangement, also from You Tube: If you are interested in playing this piece, here is the score for it. Roxana Belibou, who can be found on YouTube, scored it for me. She lives in Romania!
This piano arrangement is of a beautiful tune called "Ailem" by Turkish composer Toygar Isikli. The original is played on what I believe is a cumbus mandolin, a common instrument in Turkish music. The tune is from the star-crossed lovers' drama series Kara Sevda set in Istanbul. The series won the International Telenova Emmy Award in 2017 and stars Burak Ozkivit and Neslihan Atagul. Here is the original recording of Ailem on You Tube: And here is my arrangement for piano, also posted on You Tube: It is hard to capture the haunting sound of the mandolin on the piano. If you are interested in playing this piece, here is the score for it. I had it scored by Roxana Belibou who lives in Romania and can be found on YouTube: As always, thank you so much for taking the time to listen!

This is my piano arrangement of a beautiful tune by Contemporary Turkish composer Aytekin Atas called "Cevaplar Kitabi (Epilogue)." It is from the period drama series called Calikusu or Love Bird (and can be found on Netflix and on YouTube with English subtitles). It is set in 1912 Istanbul and has a beautiful romantic couple with great chemistry (Burak Ozcivit and Fahriye Evcen fell in love while filming the series and have recently married and are now expecting their first baby)! Here is the original tune posted on YouTube: This piece while played in the drama series also has an overlay of a haunting Armenian flute-like instrument called a Duduk which I try to replicate in the middle section of the piece. Unfortunately that part, which is my favorite, doesn't seem to be in this YouTube recording. Here is my piano arrangement of this piece, also on You Tube: In case you are interested in playing my arrangement, I had Roxana Belibou from Romania score it for me (she can be found on YouTube under the name Roxana Elena Belibou).. Here is my score: As always, thanks for listening!

I have been playing a lot of piano lately, having been initially inspired by the beautiful music by contemporary Turkish composer Toygar Isikli that I hear in so many of the Turkish TV drama series that I've been watching (no, I do not speak Turkish--I watch with English subtitles). A little known fact for Americans is that Turkey is actually the second largest exporter of drama series after the United States! This piece is a haunting cello piece from the series, Fatmagul'un Secu Ne? called, "Imkansizin Ortsinda." This drama series is about a very serious topic-- a gang rape and the ripple effects on everyone involved. It is also a very poignant story of love and healing. It stars Beren Saat and Engin Akyurek. I listened to the original tune over and over and then figured out, by ear, a piano arrangement. Here is the original piece: And here is my piano arrangement based on this piece, also on You Tube. It's hard to compete with the haunting sound of the cello, my absolute favorite instrument, but nevertheless I hope you enjoy!: If you are interested in playing this piece, here is the score for it (I had it scored by Roxana Belibou who I found on YouTube. She lives in Romania!): Thank you so much for listening!

AuthorThis blog page represents my own original compositions as well as piano arrangements created off of others' tunes. I took 7 years of piano lessons throughout my childhood and have played off and on in my adult life. My piano is an 1884 Ivers & Pond Upright Grand, made in Boston, which I had refinished and rebuilt about 24 years ago. Archives
